The Speed Academy
Ages 10-15yrs

Speed, Agility and Quickness Training is a system of progressive exercise and instruction aimed at developing athletes to become quicker with greater precision.  The training plays an important role in motor co-ordination, acceleration, balance, agility and reaction development at all ages and at all levels. It can be incorporated into fitness programs all year round – indoor and outdoor – in designated circuits, isolated drills, integrated exercise, and most importantly, during ball work.

Speed is an essential component of most sports. It doesn’t just mean being able to sprint 100 meters in a fast time. Being able to run fast in a straight line is great for a track athlete but for a lot of sports, and especially for soccer, speed means a few things: 

  • The ability to accelerate quickly
  • A high maximum speed
  • The ability to react quickly
  • Being able to twist, turn and change directions quickly
  • The ability to produce fast bursts of fast running throughout the game
  • The ability to read a situation and anticipate
  • The ability to move the ball and use the ball at speed
We take all these elements and work them into an 8 week program that will not only benefit the participants fitness wise, but will also develop the player to become more agile on the soccer field with and without a soccer ball.  
 
UPCOMING CLINICS
 
Our Winter Speed Academy sessions will be conducted in the gym at the Mass Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay.  Training will run on Thursdays 6:30-7:30pm and is due to begin on January 7th.  Please contact our office with any questions.
